INVERELL BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM PROJECT
The proposed Inverell BESS Project is a 150 MW and 1200 MWh, 8-hour Battery Energy Storage System designed to strengthen grid stability by delivering bi-directional energy flow, helping to balance supply and demand while supporting the integration of affordable, clean renewable energy. The system is projected to store and release enough energy to power roughly 52,500 homes during each 8-hour discharge cycle.
Strategically positioned between the Gwydir Highway and Elsmore Road, the project site lies next to the Inverell Substation. This close proximity enables an efficient and cost-effective grid connection, eliminating the need for extensive and expensive transmission infrastructure.
Beyond enhancing grid reliability, the Inverell BESS Project will facilitate the integration of more solar and wind energy projects, contributing to national climate goals by lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The local economy is also expected to benefit, with increased business activity throughout the project’s development phases.
Our Vision
We are taking clear and impactful steps to address the global challenges posed by climate change. Driven by passion and innovation, we are dedicated to building a cleaner, more sustainable Australia.
Our mission is to generate and store clean, renewable energy for local communities, helping to reduce environmental impact and lower carbon emissions. We imagine a future powered entirely by renewable energy, supported by storage systems that ensure stability by balancing supply and demand across different regions.
At South Energy, we are leading the transition to a more sustainable future through projects like the proposed Inverell BESS Project—aimed at creating lasting benefits for current and future generations.
